Presenter: Michael Crall
State of Michigan Act 54, Act 407 Approved Instructor #1970
Director – Barrier Management & Pre-construction
Compliance One Group

Michael Crall recently joined Compliance One Group as a Market Segment Leader, Barrier Management, for the code compliance firm located in Kalamazoo, MI. Responsible for the development and implementation of an array of barrier management compliance programs, Michael’s 30 years’ experience brings a multi-level dimension to his work. While partnering with either new construction clients or established maintenance and facility directors, Michael assesses and designs proactive barrier compliance alignment measures to stand up to the highly regulated safety code and building ordinance authorities.

As a State of Michigan Act 54, Act 407 Approved Instructor of 12 years, Michael contributes to Compliance One Group’s all-inclusive efforts to serving the needs of the physical environment, as it relates to the design, testing, and maintenance of healthcare, university and multiple use construction facilities.

Relative to the bonding and specification process, Michael assists management throughout the facility completion and into the long-termed maintenance requirements of Life Safety and Environmental Care. He also excels in directing clients map compliancy standards while creating sustainable solutions with a focus on future facility inspections and a return on investment.

As he weaves best practices into Compliance One Group’s technical content database, Michael’s areas of expertise include: wall/floor barrier applications; joint/edge of slab applications; and door/damper assemblies and applications, while he further increases design firm code specifications within Divisions 7, 8, 9 and 27. Michael is also proficient at presenting, training and facilitating technical presentations to various Code Official/Fire Marshal Officials for continuing education during Compliance One Group industry seminars and CSM Group webinars/seminars.

By proactively working with a client’s design firm, Michael can discern whether the existing Life Safety drawings adhere to the stringent compliance codes of the International/Michigan Building Code and the NFPA, while likewise meeting the exacting requirements of a Joint Committee Inspection. This detailed review approach may determine if existing targets, systems or applications are exposed to vulnerabilities and deficiencies. If deficiencies are detected, Michael advises clients on steps to remain in compliance. These suggestions may include: considering other ways of mitigating risk; training staff; tracking assets; introducing hazard-reduction efforts; managing documentation and more.

Poised to impact Compliance One Group, a division of CSM Group, Michael will lead, direct and guide clients while assisting all to work with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ’s) for code compliant construction and maintenance. With his unique mix of global experience in management, staffing, product management, product design/testing, fire protection, electrical technology and construction experience, clients can rest assured of the immediate impact on the safety, care and value he and the Compliance One Group team bring to their employees, patients, students and environments.

Preparedness and safety are close to Michael’s heart and are demonstrated in his resolve and passion for the industry. As an active father of 18-year-old triplet boys, Michael has supported and acted as Assistant Scout Master/Troop 228 to further the boy’s journeys to achieve the coveted rank of Boy Scout American Eagle Scout Award.

With dedication and confidence, Michael looks forward to helping and protecting Compliance One Group clients as together they “design with compliance in mind.”
